2008 IHMSA Silhouette Pistol Clinic

The International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association started in 1976 with the purpose of promoting handgun silhouette competition. The object of the competition is to knock down metallic silhouettes (chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams) at various ranges to a maximum of 200 meters. The sport has spread to many countries and matches are shot all over the USA. Many different types of matches are shot and there is always one to suit any member of the family. The matches vary according to handgun type (.22 to big bore) and shooting position (standing to free style). We pride ourselves in our diversity as IHMSA is open to men, women and children of all ages and physical abilities.

Locally we shoot at the Wildcat Valley Rifle and Pistol Club which is located just a couple of miles south and west of Brookston. The matches start at 10 a.m. on the fourth Sunday of the month from April through October.

Join us on May 26 at 1 pm for an informational clinic to help the new shooter understand our sport of organized plinking. There is nothing quite like the sound when you hit the steel target and watch it fall over.

Come to our free clinic on Saturday May 24 at 1 p.m. and learn more about this exciting sport

Jim Heath, Match Director

September 23, 2007

We had an excellent day for a match.  It didn't get really hot until about the time we were finishing up around 3 or 4.

I want to thank everyone who helped put on the match.  Daniel Roller, Paul Ellersieck, Randy Hillyer and Blake Hillyer set the range up on Saturday afternoon.  Daniel called the line so I could shoot a match.  Levi McMindes did a good job setting and painting targets for us.  Finally, David Wood, Mike Slusher, Daniel Roller and Levi put things up.  Daniel made repairs to some targets that had problems with a little help from David Wood and Levi.

We had one tie between Fred Franz and David Wood with 33s in FP PAS.  Fred won on the reverse ram count because he had one more ram than David.  Mike Slusher got a 60 aggregate in SB standing.  Fred Franz got a 64 aggregate in field pistol.  Finally, David Wood and Ron Rogers had nice aggregates in fifth scale.

I hope everyone had a good time.  I want to thank everyone for coming out and I hope you will all come back for our October match on October 28th.
